Fiber optic cables use standardized color codes for jackets, individual fibers, and connectors to ensure accurate identification and prevent miswiring, following the TIA-598-C standard.Outer Jacket Color CodesThe outer jacket color of a fiber optic cable provides a quick visual indication of the fiber type and mode:Single-mode fibers (OS1/OS2): Yellow jacket, used for long-distance telecom and ISP backbones .Multimode fibers:OM1/OM2: Orange jacket, legacy networks with LED sources .OM3: Aqua jacket, optimized for high-speed VCSEL networks (10/40/100 Gb/s) up to 300 meters .OM4: Aqua or Erika Violet jacket, supports longer distances than OM3 (up to 400 meters for 10G) and higher bandwidth .OM5: Bright lime green jacket, designed for SWDM applications and multiple wavelengths, supporting 100+ Gb/s transmission .Inner Fiber Color SequenceIndividual fibers within multi-fiber cables follow a 12-color repeating sequence for identification:BlueOrangeGreenBrownSlateWhiteRedBlackYellowVioletRoseAqua For cables exceeding 12 fibers, the sequence repeats with additional markings (e.g., stripes) to maintain unique identification . In high-density cables, a tube-and-fiber system is used: the 12-color sequence is applied to the outer buffer tube and then repeated for fibers inside the tube. For example, Fiber #34 would be the 10th fiber (Violet) in the 3rd tube (Green), .
