Specific division of the three-level distribution box

Specific division of the three-level distribution box

A three-level distribution box system divides power distribution into primary (main), secondary (sub), and tertiary (switch) levels, each with distinct roles, equipment, and protection measures.Primary Distribution Box (First-Level)The primary distribution box, also called the main distribution box, serves as the central hub of the power distribution system. It is typically installed near the power source or transformer and does not directly supply power to end-use devices. Its main functions include receiving electrical energy, distributing it to secondary boxes, and providing centralized monitoring and control. Key components include main circuit breakers, isolating switches, main fuses, voltmeters, ammeters, and residual current devices (RCDs). The primary box ensures overall circuit safety and centralized management for the entire site or project .Secondary Distribution Box (Second-Level)The secondary distribution box, or sub-distribution box, is installed in specific areas such as floors, buildings, or near large electrical equipment. It receives power from the primary box and distributes it to tertiary boxes or directly to heavy loads like motors. Typical equipment includes branch circuit breakers, branch fuses, isolating switches, and leakage protectors. Secondary boxes are designed for three-phase power distribution, often with dual-door protection, powder-coated exteriors, and rainproof tops for outdoor use. They form part of a two-layer protection system, with RCDs installed both here and at the tertiary level .Tertiary Distribution Box (Third-Level)The tertiary distribution box, also known as the switch box, is the final connection point for individual electrical equipment or groups of similar devices. It is closely connected to the equipment and may be fixed or portable. Each tertiary box typically controls one device or one group of devices, following the principle of “one machine, one switch, one RCD, one box, one lock” to ensure independent protection. Components include isolation switches, circuit breakers, and leakage protectors, providing direct control and protection for the connected equipment. This level ensures safe operation for end-use devices and prevents overload or electrical hazards .Summary of Power Flow and ProtectionPrimary Box: Receives power from the transformer, distributes to secondary boxes, monitors overall system.Secondary Box: Distributes power to specific areas or heavy loads, provides intermediate protection.Tertiary Box: Directly supplies individual equipment, ensures final protection with RCDs and circuit breakers. This three-tiered system ensures effective power management, high safety, and reliability, particularly in construction sites, residential complexes, or large projects where multiple devices and circuits require independent protection and monitoring .
